St Georges Barracks
Courtcraft was selected by Amey Defence to go and replace a tired Tarkett sports hall floor that had been badly damaged through heavy and incorrect use at the MOD Base St Georges Barracks. Following a rip-up and removal of the old floor, Courtcraft flooring installers laid 458m2 of Junckers Ash variation 22mm solid board on 57mm Blubat battens. The floor installation was completed without having to remove all the PT gym equipment. Our sports court line marking was completed by our partners at MJ Courtmarkers. We think the Junckers Ash board in both the natural and artificial lights look stunning.
If you would like to know more about this project or would like to talk about your own flooring project then give our team a call on 01942 881 500.

Court Repair & Refurbishment Services
Squash courts, like most things, eventually wear out. Some squash court plasters don’t stand up to the constant pounding of balls and rackets, which means repeated impacts can turn tiny pin-holes into gaping craters. Floors need regular sanding to provide the correct grip and older floor types with random-length boards can suffer from frequent board breakages.
Courtcraft can offer a one off quote to refurbish the courts and get them back to looking and playing like new or we offer flexible 3 – 5 year squash court maintenance plans which offer a fixed price cost for servicing & maintaining the courts for the duration of the pre-agreed maintenance plan.
Glass Walls & Doors
90% of new squash courts have glass-back walls and the vast majority of those are by Ellis Pearson – the world’s leading brand. Ellis Pearson Glasswalls are available in a choice of configurations. Freestanding types, which are supported by glass-fins and fixed-head types (Clubwalls), which are supported by posts and then fixed to structural beams or lintels.
Ellis Pearson Glasswalls are constructed from 12mm toughened glass, in accordance with stringent safety standards and recommended building codes of practice.
Ellis Pearson Glasswalls are approved by the World Squash Federation and are backed by a 10 year guarantee.

Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club:Environmental improvements
Hallamshire Tennis and Squash Club is set just outside Sheffield city centre and has 2100 members. The club has 6 outdoor tennis courts, 4 indoor tennis courts, 10 squash courts, a gym and 2 saunas.
Courtcraft were pleased to be working on a project delivering environmental sustainability goals in a major sports facility. Six of the squash courts were fitted with underfloor heating to replace old ceiling-mounted heaters which rarely delivered the heat to where it was required. Underfloor heating permits controllable heat at player level and will remove time consuming and expensive maintenance on the old units. This will save significant amounts of money by making the heating within the squash courts as efficient as possible.
Portway Lifestyle Centre
Portway Lifestyle Centre is an exciting leisure facility for Sandwell, a vibrant and unique sports, health and well-being centre for the whole community and centre of excellence for people with disabilities. The sport and leisure facilities at Portway Lifestyle Centre are managed by charitable organisation Sandwell Leisure Trust.
The project is a partnership between Sandwell Council, Sandwell Leisure Trust, Department of Health, NHS England and Sport England. It has been supported by Sport England through Sustainable Facilities Lottery Funding. The project aims to provide easy and inclusive access for all of the community and provide a ‘whole life approach’ to health and social care delivery. It includes a wide range of facilities that are designed to encourage disabled people to participate in physical activities and leisure services.
Courtcraft was excited to be a construction partner in such an important sports facility project. We installed nearly 1200m2 of Junckers SylvaSport Beech flooring on battens to provide an A4 rated sports floor.
Flitwick Leisure Centre
The Flitwick Leisure Centre is a 14.87 million pound development that provides a key strategic facility for Central Bedfordshire which will help promote community health and well-being in the local communities.
Courtcraft were proud to be a part of this important community based facility. We fitted Junckers Sylvasport Maple premium flooring to the sports hall, multi-use room and two first floor studios where we laid approximately 1100m2 of beautiful solid wood flooring.
Sport England have kindly given us permission to cross-link and share their material for the Sports Facility case studies. For more information please contact the Business Support Team at Sport England website. Contact Sport England.

Junckers supply to all market sectors, with particular emphasis on sports flooring, dance flooring and education flooring. University of Hull Sports Centre
The main sports hall, 947m2 in size was fitted out with Junckers 22mm solid Sylvasport premium beech boards on their Unobat 45 system.
New Era Unobat
The New Era UnoBat sports floor system is a packable high quality flooring system which can be installed over an uneven sub‑floor. This system incorporates a black evazote polyethelene foam rubber base for higher performance characteristics to the higher A4 level of the standard.
The sports floor system comprises the 22 mm Junckers solid hardwood board, secretly nailed to a kiln dried softwood batten, which is supported by foam backed strong polypropylene cradles. Fine levelling of the system takes place between the cradles and the battens. There are a range of heights available from 60 mm to 439 mm.
Unobat 45
The solid floor boards are nailed to a resilient subconstruction of one layer engineered battens featuring a unique arrangement of specially developed rubber strips premounted on the underside of the battens.
Junckers Clip System
The Clip System is a low profile, floating sports flooring system, designed for installations over all types of flat subfloors. This system is ideal for refurbishment projects, or when the finished floor height must be kept to an absolute minimum.
The 22mm solid hardwood floor boards are joined together with Junckers Steel Clips, which allow for unique independent floor board flexing. The floor floats over a 5 or 10mm performance foam underlay for maximum resilience.
Since there are no nails used in the Clip System, the floor system can be taken up and reinstalled elsewhere if ever needed.
Sylvasport solid timber flooring
Junckers wooden floors are made of 100% solid hardwood. There are no intermediate layers of alternative materials in the floorboards that can come apart. The floors have a full 22mm thickness of hardwood, and this makes them very strong and stable. The floor boards are made from two rows of staves assembled by means of a carefully machined double dovetail joint. A solution which uses the timber efficiently without compromising the quality
Junckers Beech, Maple and Ash sports floors are dried using Junckers unique press drying method. This process creates high strength and an indentation resistance of the floor board that will usually exceed that of similar boards dried using normal methods.
Junckers floors are always supplied prefinished with lacquer from the factory. This makes the floor ready to use right after installation.
Beech, Maple and Ash hardwood is renowned for its excellent workable strength qualities. The even structure delivers a durable floor, perfect for numerous forms of sport, dance & fitness activities. Junckers solid hardwood sports flooring is produced and categorised in accordance with EN 13629, EN 14904 and Junckers own factory standard.

Education & Leisure Flooring

Sports Flooring
At whatever level you play it, sport is all about performance & endurance – the same is true for sports flooring. Safety is increasingly a prime consideration. A good sports floor enhances performance by reducing leg fatigue and the risk of injury. It provides good traction, resilience & accurate ball response. As one of the country’s leading sports flooring specialists, our sports & activity floors provide optimum performance, the right amount of shock absorption and resilience. This promotes safe play, good ball control & sporting excellence.

Dance & Aerobics Flooring
Dance and aerobics can be an intense and physically demanding activity, both for users & for the floors they exercise on. Dance & activity floors need to be resilient, slip-resistant & provide good shock absorption, so that repeated steps and impacts don’t damage joints & ligaments. Our dance floors do just this.

Gym & Fitness Flooring
Fitness floors need to perform several important functions. The foremost being the practical need to support heavy equipment and to conceal power & data cables. They then have to be able to withstand the constant repeated impacts of users exercising. Equally important is the need for hygienic surfaces, which are low-maintenance, and easily cleanable; which are non-allergenic, which don’t harbour bacteria and stay odour-free.

Sports Line Marking
Courtcraft specialise in the layout & marking out of indoor sports courts. All in accordance with the recommendations of Sport England, and the requirements of governing bodies & national associations such as FIBA, England Basketball & England Netball.
Our Services Include:
CAD layout drawing service
High performance paints & lacquers
Re-marking & renovation service

Skirting & Threshold Strips
Establishing and maintaining the correct edge gaps is critically important in sports halls, where there are additional practical factors to consider. Strength and durability is important; so is impact-resistance. This is especially important if sports like football & hockey are planned, when the skirting will need to withstand ball & stick impacts.
Edge gaps need to be left clear to allow for expansion, as do transitions in finishes from timber to tiles, vinyl or carpet at doorways.

Maintenance, Refurbishment & Renovation
Sports & Leisure Industry Maintenance
Courtcraft provide a range of renovation and maintenance packages which provide the perfect solution for squash courts, sports hall flooring, dance floors, activity floors, school halls, commercial floors.
It is a legal duty to provide a safe environment, so floors need regular sanding to provide the correct grip, but even well-maintained floors need replacing sooner or later – regular sanding inevitably wears them out. Older floor types with random-length boards can suffer from frequent board breakages, creating potential safety hazards for players.
At Courtcraft we guarantee first-rate craftsmanship and safe, dust-free and environmentally considerate maintenance and renovation operations. We only use low-odour, water-based polyurethane lacquers, which are formaldehyde and solvent-free, ensuring that no volatile organic compounds are released – they are also very hard-wearing.
